2006 - 2010 Meeting Schedule



REGION  6  ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING / TURKEY DINNER

Our annual holiday function for Region 6 will be held on Thursday, November 25, 2010, at St. James Anglican Church Hall in downtown Kentville.   The church is located on Main Street, corner of Prospect, across from the Cornwallis Inn.

<>There will be a morning business meeting, beginning at 10 a.m.   Members of the Provincial Executive will be there to update us, especially on pensions, and answer any questions.   Doug Gough, provincial secretary, will make a video presentation on our 25th anniversary.

A turkey dinner, catered by the church women, will follow at noon,
at a cost of $15/ person.

REGION  6  MEETING

Our Region 6 meeting was held on Wednesday, October 13, beginning at 10 a.m. at The Captain's Cabin restaurant, in downtown Digby. Near the wharf; scenic location.
 
The agenda included the following topics: regular business meeting; roundtable discussion by those who attended Convention, report from provincial executives present. At 11:30, a talk by a local fisherman on his experiences, followed by lunch at the restaurant [at the member's expense] for those who stayed.
 



ANNUAL Christmas Turkey Dinner Meeting for 2009

The Annual turkey dinner was held again this year on Thursday, November 26, 2009, at St. James Anglican Church [Main St corner of Prospect Av., across from the NSLC] in downtown Kentville.
 
The business meeting  began at 10 AM.   At noon a turkey dinner was served by the ladies of the church. They have a good reputation.   Our after dinner speaker was  Michelle Parker, who is Kings County Seniors Safety Coordinator with the RCMP.   She spoke generally on safety concerns for older persons - physical, financial, etc.

ANNUAL Christmas Turkey Dinner Meeting for 2008

Business meeting was held on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 10am with annual Christmas turkey dinner afterwards at St. James Anglican Church Hall in Kentville, NS

Large turnout of members, with President Pauline Lockhart and Secretary/Treasurer Tom Haliburton presiding.

Also attending were members of the Provincial Executive - President Bernie LaRusic, Vice-President Steve MacDonald,  Membership Secretary Sharon Braine,  Benefits Representative Jim Bacich and Secretary Doug Gough.    Region 6 member and Provincial Pensions Representative Joan Churchill was also in  attendance.

The after dinner speaker was Region 6 member Fred Walsh, former Rockland farmer, now retired from the Department of Agriculture.

This meeting was held in the western end of Region 6, and even though all members are invited, it was especially for
members in Annapolis, Digby and west Kings Counties

Region 6 of the NS Government Retired Employees Association held their Spring meeting in the Lion's Den, West Hants Community Centre, Windsor on Tuesday morning, 17 April, 2007, beginning at 10am.  The speaker was Tom MacNeil, district manager, Living Independently with Community Supports (LINCS) for the Valley district health authority. 
Recipients of a pension from the NS Superannuation Plan were particularly welcomed at the meeting.

in the Cornwallis Park Community Centre, in Annapolis County, with Provincial Executive President Bernie LaRusic and Vice-President Steve MacDonald in attendance.

The meeting began at 10am, with tea, coffee, and light refreshments members brought.

Important Announcements and Functions

THE ANNUAL TURKEY DINNER MEETING
 
The annual turkey dinner meeting was held in the same place as last year i.e. the Lion's Hall in Coldbrook, on Thursday, November 30, 2006. Dinner was turkey with fruit pie for dessert.
 
The business meeting began at 10 AM and members of the provincial executive were present to update us on their activities.
 
Dinner was at 12 noon, and the after dinner speaker was The Honourable Mayann E. Francis. O.N.S., Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. 
 
Her Honour spoke of her role as the newly appointed Lt. Governor of Nova Scotia and the connection to Her Majesty the Queen, who she is scheduled to meet in the Spring. She told about growing up in Whitney Pier, her pleasure at being appointed by the Prime Minister and the significance of her particular  appointment. The talk was well received by the 68 members and guests present.

OLDER DRIVERS' SAFE DRIVING COURSE  -  NSGREA

Approved by the Provincial Department - Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Affairs
Sponsored by NSGREA - Region 6 (Annapolis Valley / Digby Area)
FREE for drivers 65 years of age and older  (a $10 deposit is required at the time of course registration, which is refundable upon course completion and issue of a graduation award certificate)

The Christmas dinner for 2003 was held on Monday, December 1st, at the Waterville Fire Hall.   A General meeting was held at 11am, followed by a turkey dinner at noon, and then our guest speaker.

Volunteer callers are needed to help lighten the load for all.   Most calling lists are about 15 names so it takes only a half hour or so, four times per year.   Member calling keeps members informed of meetings, and also gives good feedback on illnesses, deaths, etc.
