It is with the heaviest hearts that we, the family of
Cameron MacKinnon, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father,
grandfather, brother and uncle on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at the Cape
Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with his family by his side.
Born and raised in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Angus and
Annie Mae (Cameron) MacKinnon. Cameron was a very devoted and active
member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney.
He started work in the office of the coal company in Glace Bay, later
taking a position in the Sydney steel plant, from where he went to
U.C.C.B. He was an executive member of the NSGEU and after retirement
in 1994 he was treasurer of the retirees association. He loved to
travel, gardening, and loved playing poker with the boys. He was always
there to help if you needed a hand.
Cameron leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife, Eunice (Doyle), a
very special part of his life. His children, son, Keith (Pam), Bedford,
N.S.; daughters, Arlene (Bob) Bryan, Bedford, N.S., Paula (Kerry),
California; grandchildren, Liam, Kyle, Scott, Ian, and Hannah, the joys
of his life; sister, Anna (Edward) Kelly, Glace Bay; special nieces and
nephews, Caroline, Shane, Becky Jo, and Elise, as well as many more
nieces and nephews and great friends.
Besides his parents, Cameron was predeceased by his sister, Yvonne, and
brother, Laughlin.
There will be no visitation at his request. Cremation has taken place
under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home. A memorial
service will be held at the Bethel Presbyterian Church, George Street,
Sydney on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bob Lyle
officiating. A luncheon in Cameron's honour will be held immediately
following in the church hall, where the family will receive friends and
relatives, all are welcome. A private family burial will take place in
Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Cameron's memory can be made to the
Canadian Diabetes Association, Loaves and Fishes, or a charity of one's
choice.
